Embracing Change: Reliable Life Constant

Have you ever been in the situation when after a long self discovery journey you have finally reached your goals? What happened next? Most likely you have maintained your routine for a while and then things just got “Same old”. This period is really dangerous because we start doing some of our routines on autopilot, which means that we are not as aware of the tiny triggers of potentially major changes. As a result when we finally “see the light” it may be too late to change course and what is even harder to recover to our previous trajectory. Often we may need to change to a completely different trajectory. It is this awareness that is the topic of today’s discussion, both for earlier detection as well as earlier recovery.

Spencer Johnson wrote a book called “Who Moved My Cheese?” where he described this very phenomenon and how different people deal and handle this situation.

I found the analogy of the cheese to anything that makes us happy very fitting. Also, the idea of the two mice and two little people who are in pursuit of the daily cheese is also spot on. It illustrates different personalities that people have and how they deal with change. Because the only constant in life is that nothing ever stays the same. It is easy for us to become accustomed to current circumstances and even expecting them. Well, the just like the wind changes direction so do the circumstances. The only way to come out of this is to adapt and do this with a growth mindset.

I have found this animation of the book on YouTube, much gratitude to the person who posted it. I really enjoyed watching it and I hope that you do as well.

Let me know in the comments what you think of it.
